Wedge lock scaffolding is a modular access system in which horizontal ledgers and diagonal braces lock into pre-welded rosettes on the vertical standard using a hammer-driven wedge. It is the system many Vietnamese contractors call the “star lock” or “star scaffold” because of the star-shaped node plate on the vertical. The same system is widely specified in Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Compared with cuplock (which needs a spanner on every node) and ringlock (which uses a separate wedge pin per connection), wedge lock is favoured for speed of erection — a full bay can be locked with just a hammer — and for rigidity, making it a common choice for formwork support and façade access on Vietnamese high-rise and industrial projects.
